Alys Beach struck again! Trust me when I tell you that I will never be able to get enough of this place. It was beach day, which surprisingly is not every day when we are down there. I love love love to mix and match bathing suit tops and bottoms. I don't think anyone would disagree with me when I say the moment swimsuits come out in Target, you better run to get your favorite ones. Your size will go out of stock faster than you could imagine! I fell in love with this baby blue flouncy top when swimsuits first came out this season. The criss-cross strap design in the back is a detail that has made this top one of my favorites for the summer. The polka dot bottoms are from a few seasons ago, but similar ones are linked below. I wanted to break up the solid bright blue with a neutral colored print. (Hence, black and white polka dots.)
Sometimes, I am too lazy to pull out a delicate designed cover-up or hot white linen pants that end up getting dirty at the bottom because of sand. Instead, I opt for simple denim cutoffs, such as these Forever 21 white ones pictured below, and grab an unbuttoned chambray shirt or a light kimono like here. I used to dislike flip-flops with a passion, so I would never wear them. However, something inside me switched this summer, and now I always have a pair sitting by the front door for me to quickly throw on. I realized the practicality and easiness of them real fast.
Whenever school is out, I try to get down to Alys with William and his family as much as I can. Sooo, even though I just got back from a week and day long trip, I am headed back down there with William, a couple of our friends, and his family for the Fourth of July week once more. I cannot wait to show y'all more summer looks while I am down there!
Have a fabulous rest of the week!
I’m sure you’re all curious about who this new face posting on The Memphis Jewel, well I go by Alli! I am starting a new style segment today called All Alli, where I'll share my own personal fashion advice, style, and favorite things! I am twenty-one years old, and I go to the University of Memphis. I am studying Fashion and Home Furnishing Merchandise with a minor in Marketing. I was born and raised in Memphis, TN. I have a passion for fashion and decorating -- it has become an outlet for me to show my creativity. My style is all about changing things up. I love taking basic or statement pieces and making them look like a new outfit every time I walk out the door. I would definitely describe myself as an avid ‘layerer'. I think it's a great way to create a spin on any look.
With that being said, this first post is about layering and changing up a simple print tunic. I recently got hired as a MIT at Free People Memphis. Every time I work, i’m just itching to buy one of our newest pieces! A couple weeks ago, I snagged this fabulous tunic. It’s the perfect summer throw-on. I wore it recently when a sweet friend, Iris, and I decided to have an "Explore Memphis Day!" We’ve done this several times! We always try to find cool and new places around Memphis to enjoy and take fun photos. And did I mention, Iris is an incredible photographer!
I then made this look a little more playful by layering this tunic with a pair of Hudson jean cut-offs and a pair of sandals. I love how by tucking in a corner of this tunic I can instantly change the look from a cute sundress, to a more casual laid-back look! I added these adorable Adonis Pearl necklaces, I got in Starkville the other weekend, for the finishing touch!
Layering can drastically change your look, whether it’s something old that you want to make look new again, or a new purchase you’re wanting to wear a million times!
